About Attorney W. Michael Atkins

Michael Atkins was born and raised in Los Angeles California. The younger of two children, Michael was instilled with a strong work ethic as well as a strong desire for education from his parents. Growing up, Michael found that he was gifted in athletics, specifically football. He determined that he would parlay his talents on the football field and his academic accomplishments to secure a place in a university. Michael attended Columbia University in New York City where he achieved Deans List honors while playing collegiate football. He satisfied requirements for a BA degree in Political Science and African American Studies. He remained in the New York area after graduation working as a paralegal for the complex civil litigation firm of Allegaert Berger and Vogel. This experience helped Michael decide to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. He returned to his hometown and enrolled at Loyola Law School of Los Angeles, California.

While enrolled at Loyola Law School, Michael balanced attending to his studies, actively participating in the student organizations such as the Black Law Students Association, as well as working full time at various law firms. These law firms included Liner Grode Stein Yankelevitz Sunshine Regenstreif & Taylor LLP-an entertainment and media litigation firm; The Disability Mediation Center- mental and physical disability rights advocacy firm; and Early, Maslach & Rudnicki- an insurance defense litigation firm.

Following his graduation from Loyola Law School, Michael relocated to Phoenix, Arizona upon acceptance of a clerkship position with the criminal defense firm of Tyrone Mitchell, P.C. It was in this position that Mr. Atkins gained intimate knowledge and experience regarding criminal and civil law and its procedure at the state and federal levels. This exposure created a passion for criminal law within him and led him to accept a position with the City of Mesa Prosecutor’s Office.

After a period of time with the Mesa Prosecutor’s Office, Michael began to understand that his ideas of justice diverged from that of the office and he would be more productive as a defense attorney. He crossed the aisle and founded his own criminal defense practice. Since the founding of this practice, Michael has appeared before various courts within the valley. He has successfully tried cases on the city, state and federal levels.
